This is a story of resilience, love, and the unwavering support of a community. The woman, Fiona, is a passionate hiker and has climbed many mountains in her life. She is determined to conquer the iconic Slieve Donard, the highest peak in Northern Ireland, to raise funds for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund. Fiona’s wife, Sarah, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer earlier this year.

We are on this journey together, full of positivity and gratitude for the care and kindness the team at the Cancer Centre have shown us.
“By the grace of God, we will continue to conquer through, while raising vital funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre, which is a cause very close to our hearts.” For 39 years, Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland. The charity is here to enhance the quality of patient care and support through its life-changing and life-saving work which includes funding additional nurses, supporting local research and providing practical support, such as financial grants, which help families through a difficult time. Friends of the Cancer Centre relies on the generosity of the local community and all money donated stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefiting patients and their families. Ciara Bainbridge, Corporate and Events Fundraising Officer at Friends of the Cancer Centre, added: “On behalf of the charity I would like to say a huge thank you to Linda for signing up for our Slieve Donard Challenge. Our Slieve Donard Challenge, which is proudly supported by Warmflow Home Heating Solutions, is the perfect opportunity to climb Northern Ireland’s highest peak with a great group of people, for a cause that impacts thousands of people – people like Carolyn – every day.
“Every step to the summit will be a step in support of the charity and the people we support. The money raised will make a huge difference to our work, where £25 could help us fund one hour of care from a funded nurse.” If you would like to sponsor Linda, you can donate online here.
